How Long to Stay Where?

There seems to be two forms of travelers: those who move from place to place every few days taking in as many sights as possible and those who linger in one place for a much longer period.

The ones on the go tend to be those new to foreign travel. It’s very tempting to want to see everything. You read excitedly about these places that sound so exotic. You’ve created a list of things to do and places to see and you hurry about from one place to another. But, have you really experienced the country?

After some years of taking in too many spots on a single trip, we’ve become adherents of the slower approach to world travel….spend more time in one place and you will really get to know that area, that town, that city, that village…spend time talking with the people and you will start to understand their culture….in many ways, land looks much the same, whether it’s in India, Patagonia, or the southwest US but it’s the people that really make the culture.
