How difficult is the Inca Trail?

Some people find the Inca Trail very easy, others find it somewhat difficult. It really depends upon your own personal fitness level. As far as serious hiking trails go, however, the Inca Trail is one of the easier to tackle. Perhaps the most important preparation is to acclimatize to the altitude. Plan on spending 3 days in Cuzco to get adjusted to the altitude. Of course, Cuzco is a wonderful place for spending a few leisurely days.

Altitude sickness can be very serious for some people and should be taken seriously.

Even though you will be with a group in hiking the Inca Trail, be sure to walk the trail at your own pace. Not only will you enjoy it more but you’re less likely to wear yourself out.
