Hitchhiking in Argentina

Hitchhiking is still a common form of travel in Argentina, particularly in Patagonia. The distances are huge there and a hitchhiker needs patience, sometimes waiting hours for a car to stop. When driving through Patagonia, we often would stop whenever we see someone hitching a drive. We tended to stop more for couples. Single men traveling alone likely have a more difficult time catching a ride. It’s not uncommon either to see two or more young women hitchhiking. Sometimes people are just going a kilometer or two down the road, sometimes they’re going to the next town 50 kilometers away.
