An afternoon in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia

There really isn’t much to do in the town of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. But the main plaza, which seems to have recently undergone a very nice renovation, is an enjoyable place to visit for a while. The old church facing the plaza is also quite interesting.

I had the opportunity of going to Santa Cruz de la Sierra a few years ago. If Bolivia is a magical place, Santa Cruz de la Sierra is the gateway back to reality. We went with the idea of spending a few days in the Matto Grosso, but when we got there we discovered that we could only take short (and expensive) daily excurtions…. which wasn`t exactly what we where looking for. It was too hot, it was too “city-ish”, it was a lot like back home. But we too found our dosis of magic in the sqare, with the beautiful wooden cathedral in the background.

We had our expected trip to the jungle the following year in the brazilian Amazonia.
