Alcântara, a hidden paradise
Alcântara is a paradise far up on the northeastern coast of Brazil. Once ranked among the richest towns in northern Brazil, Alcântara is now only a village among the ruins the bay from São Luis.
The only way to get to Alcântara is by boat, 90 minutes on choppy waters but visitors report that the trip is worthwhile.
While busloads of tourists seem to find their way everywhere, Alcântara is still one of the hidden spots to be treasured.
