Someone recently asked the best city in South America for a couple to spend their anniversary, particularly if it’s their first visit to the continent.

My first suggestion would be Rio because of the city’s natural beauty on the water and the hills surrounding the city. It’s certainly a very romantic place. (I took my girlfriend to Rio for her 30th birthday).

Second choice would be Buenos Aires (my adopted hometown), a city of great architecture and passion. It’s actually a close call between Rio and Buenos Aires. They’re both very different but the loveliness of the natural surroundings of Rio win out, in my mind.

If one wanted a small local, away from the cities, then I would most definitely recommend Cuzco with a trip over to Machu Picchu, all of which would make for an enchanting, unforgettable way to spend an important date.
